Nonu's solo response to haka

In an extraordinary build-up to an All Blacks match, former All Black Ma’a Nonu, wearing the Sharks' black-and-white strip, stunned the hardy 20,000 spectators at Kings Park with a solo Haka. Nonu, a double World Cup winner with New Zealand, has signed a four-month contract with the Durban franchise. As a mentor to the youthful Sharks squad, Nonu performed the traditional Māori war dance to challenge his former teammates.

The crowd loved the emotional, one-man acceptance of the call to arms, while television cameras captured the unforgettable moment, adding another memorable footnote to the rich 105-year history of rugby encounters between New Zealand and South Africa. Nonu's role is to guide backline youngsters such as Vusi Moyo, Jaco Williams, Jurenzo Julius, Litelihle Bester, Zek Siyaya, Donovan Don, and Liam Gilliomee, with the Sharks featuring a dozen Junior Springboks in their setup.
