Nigeria not a Muslim country – Rev Dachomo counters Sheikh Jingir

Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations in Plateau State, has criticized Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir for claiming that Nigeria is a Muslim country. Jingir made these remarks during a program in Kano State, supporting the idea of a Muslim-majority political arrangement. He referred to Christians as infidels and suggested they leave the country if unhappy with the Muslim-Muslim leadership.

Dachomo vehemently disagreed with Jingir's statements, emphasizing that Nigeria is a multi-religious nation where both Muslims and Christians have played significant roles in the political process and national development. He urged religious leaders to refrain from making public comments that could exacerbate religious tensions or foster hostility between different communities.

Dachomo stressed that political leadership should be based on competence, justice, good governance, and the leaders' ability to safeguard the safety and property of all citizens, rather than on religious numerical dominance.
