New York and New Jersey have declared August 15 as "India Independence Day" to honor the massive Indian-American community and India's journey to independence. New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill issued proclamations recognizing this day ahead of India's 80th Independence Day.
