National U-15 t’tennis tournament begins

The seventh edition of the Adegboyega Efunkoya Sports Foundation's National U-15 Table Tennis Championships kicked off in Lagos on Tuesday with a two-day clinic at the National Stadium's indoor hall. From August 13 to 15, the main tournament will take place, with the aim of discovering new champions. Hundreds of young athletes are participating in the clinic, which focuses on improving their techniques, footwork, and tactical strategies, while instilling discipline and innovation.

Physical conditioning and modern training methods are also part of the programme, preparing players for the challenges of competition and providing them with a platform to impress national selectors. The Foundation's Chairman and former national team coach, Babatunde Obisanya, highlighted the significance of the clinic, expressing gratitude for the support received from stakeholders worldwide, including former players in the diaspora, administrators, and enthusiasts.

The Foundation, established by Dr. Adegboyega Efunkoya, aims to combine sports with education, introducing new innovations each year and supporting the education of successful players. Past participants include Matthew Kuti, now a senior squad member and Africa's U-19 champion, Khadijat Musa, and the Ayoola siblings, who currently represent Nigeria at the junior level.

The Foundation continues to promote table tennis among junior players in primary and secondary schools, with the long-term goal of placing Nigeria among the world's top ten nations in the sport.
