NACOC receives IT boost to tackle emerging cyber-enabled drug trafficking

Technology company Mood Digital Services Ltd (MDSL) has donated a range of information technology equipment to Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in a bid to bolster the organization's efforts to combat drug trafficking, particularly in the digital realm. The donation, which includes 50 HP laptops, servers, printers, projectors, drones, and iPads, is aimed at enhancing the Commission's intelligence-gathering capabilities and its ability to detect and disrupt narcotics-related activities facilitated through digital platforms.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, NACOC's Director-General, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, expressed gratitude to MDSL for its support and assured that the donated items would be utilized effectively. He highlighted the Commission's ongoing efforts to adapt to the changing nature of illicit drug trafficking, including the increasing use of cyber platforms by those involved in the trade.

In response to the donation, MDSL's Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Afari, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and NACOC to address the growing threat posed by drug trafficking and abuse. MDSL has committed to continuing its support, including providing technical and logistical assistance to NACOC's regional commands, and participating in the Commission's proposed mandatory drug testing exercise.
