MoEHE interviews students nominated for Nuclear Engineering Scholarships

Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) interviewed students nominated for the National Scholarship Initiative to pursue a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC). This move aims to enhance a skilled workforce capable of supporting scientific advancements and radiological security, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Over 30 applicants have been interviewed in a strategic step towards cultivating well-qualified national talent in this prestigious scientific field.

Noura Al Ansari, Acting Director of the Scholarships Department at MOEHE, explained that the nuclear engineering program, introduced as part of the government scholarship program for the 2026-27 academic year, provides substantial benefits to attract students. The program's popularity was evident as the number of interested students significantly surpassed expectations.

Upon enrollment, students will have their years of study counted towards their government service period, with a monthly salary of QR20,000 while in the MECC's Radiation Protection Department, according to Al Ansari.

MECC's Radiation Protection Department Assistant Director, Eng. Hamad Salah Ibrahim, emphasized the initiative's focus on nurturing Qatari students' technical and professional skills to work in peaceful nuclear energy applications, particularly at MECC. The program seeks to integrate scholarship recipients into the workforce, fostering a culture of radiation safety and security.

Ibrahim stressed that investing in Qatari students is a crucial step toward building a competent workforce and enhancing their expertise in regulatory oversight and radiation-related work.

The initiative reflects Qatar's commitment to strengthening its radiation safety framework and cultivating a knowledge-based economy. It also addresses the need to develop specialized national capabilities in regulatory oversight and sustainability. By providing scholarship recipients with stable and distinguished career paths, the program supports the country's readiness to tackle specialized challenges in this critical field, all within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030.
