Mississippi State basketball's Josh Hubbard will have high school jersey retired by MRA

Josh Hubbard, the former Madison-Ridgeland Academy basketball sensation, is set to see his high school jersey retired by the Mississippi Baseball and Softball Association (MRA). The MRA confirmed on August 12 that Hubbard's No. 12 jersey will be honored as a tribute to his outstanding career at Madison-Ridgeland Academy. Hubbard will be the first MRA player to have his number retired specifically for basketball.

The retirement ceremony will take place during halftime of the MRA vs. Hartfield Academy football game on September 4.

Hubbard's impressive basketball career began at Madison-Ridgeland Academy under the guidance of longtime coach Richard Duease. A four-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, Hubbard shattered the Mississippi High School boys basketball scoring record with 4,367 points, earned two Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selections and was named the 2022-23 Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year.

As a native of Madison, Mississippi, Hubbard is now making his mark on the college basketball stage at Mississippi State. In a recent announcement, he revealed that he will continue his college career at Mississippi State for his fourth season. Currently, Hubbard is just 195 points away from breaking Mississippi State's all-time scoring record.

He has been a three-time All-SEC selection and shattered the Mississippi State basketball record for 3-pointers in a single game with an impressive 10 made. Hubbard's accomplishments and impact on the court have solidified his status as a true basketball star, and the MRA's decision to retire his jersey is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
