Minister Zulkifli Hasan: Tabung Haji to face tougher oversight as govt acts on RCI findings

The Malaysian government is set to implement stricter oversight measures for Tabung Haji (TH) following the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI). During a special Dewan Rakyat session that ran for over 10 hours, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan announced that a task force, led by TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, will assess the RCI's findings and recommendations.

The task force includes Bank Negara Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and Securities Commission (SC) chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi. TH's management of funds and investments will be overseen by the SC, while pilgrimage-related matters will be handled by the Prime Minister's Department. During the session, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan revealed that TH's losses approached RM13 billion, and the government faced a potential liability of approximately RM74.5 billion if panic withdrawals had occurred in 2018.

The Madani Government has vowed to uphold accountability without favoritism, with comprehensive investigations and no compromise towards those found guilty.
