Messi hints at shock retirement after father's death

The 39-year-old soccer star, who will see his contract with Inter Miami expire at the end of 2028, penned the message shortly after his father's passing at the age of 68.

Reflecting on his father's final months, which coincided with the 2026 World Cup, Messi recounted his attempts to motivate his ailing father, hoping to see him at the final. However, Messi's physical condition prevented him from doing so, as he couldn't even "push past my physical limits" during the match against Spain in New Jersey.
