London being lined up to host re-run of GAA final between Mayo and Kerry

London is being considered as a possible host for a re-run of last month's thrilling GAA All-Ireland Football Championship match between Mayo and Kerry, according to reports. The Saracens’ StoneX Stadium in Hendon is being considered as a potential venue for the match, which could see the stadium's capacity expanded to 15,000 spectators. Each team boasts a significant fan base in the capital, making London a potential candidate for the historic match.

The challenge of staging the match outside of Ireland would require special permission from the GAA Central Council, as such matches are not permitted by the league between the end of the season and December. However, the match could provide a much-needed boost to the sport's profile in the UK. The last overseas GAA All-Ireland Football Championship final was held in 1947, between Cavan and Kerry, at the Polo Grounds in New York City.

Mayo ended a run of 70 years without a domestic title by narrowly defeating Kerry by three points in a packed-out Croke Park in July. A Saracens spokesperson stated that they are unable to comment on any speculation regarding potential events or fixtures at StoneX Stadium. Talks have reportedly already been held between the rugby club and a rugby league team about playing matches at their Hendon home.

Additionally, the StoneX Stadium will host Athlos, an all-female athletics event backed by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, next month.
