Linda Mwananchi calls on IG of Police to assure security ahead of Homa Bay rally

Linda Mwananchi has urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to ensure the safety of its supporters during a political rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The movement expressed worries about potential disruptions and road blocks planned by others, who intend to prevent the rally-goers from entering Homa Bay town.

The alleged plans include sending goons to interfere with voter registration near Kabunde Airstrip and blocking key bridges leading to the town. Linda Mwananchi's spokesperson, Caroli Omondi, stressed the importance of the police taking these allegations seriously and providing adequate security for the attendees. The planned rally should be allowed to continue peacefully, with the police ensuring residents and political supporters can exercise their constitutional rights without fear of intimidation.

Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino encouraged residents of Homa Bay not to be discouraged and urged them to attend the rallies. He emphasized that the movement will not cancel any rally in the region. Siaya Governor James Orengo warned that if the police fail to uphold their duty of protecting rally attendees, the organizers are fully prepared to safeguard their supporters.
