Lee's warning signs

President Lee Jae Myung's administration is receiving a clear warning from the public, as indicated by recent opinion polls. While Lee's approval rating has slipped, disapproval is on the rise, particularly among certain key demographics. A survey conducted by Cho Won C&I from Saturday to Monday revealed that 42.9 percent of respondents had a positive view of Lee's performance as president, while 54.1 percent expressed disapproval.

This marked a 4.5 percentage point decrease in approval and a 4.6 percentage point increase in disapproval compared to the previous survey. The decline in support was especially noticeable among younger voters in their 20s and 30s, as well as moderates. Even among voters in their 40s, a group that had previously been a significant base for Lee, disapproval surpassed approval.

The regional data further underscores the public's discontent. In Seoul, where Lee holds a strong presence, approval stood at just 37.2 percent, compared to 59.5 percent disapproval. In Incheon and Gyeonggi provinces, disapproval also exceeded 50 percent, signaling growing unease among the public towards the government.
