Lakers: Josh Kushner and Bob Iger buy sports club - for more than twelve billion dollars

The Los Angeles Lakers have once again changed ownership at a record price, according to ESPN. Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger are the new owners of the iconic basketball club, having reportedly paid over twelve billion dollars (approximately ten and a half billion euros) for the team in the North American elite league, the NBA. Kushner is the brother of Donald Trump's wife, Jared Kushner, and had been a key investor in a controversial deal involving the sale of rights to football World Cups – a deal that fell through following widespread protests from the football world.

Iger previously served as CEO of Disney, the US media conglomerate that owns ESPN. The duo expressed deep gratitude in a statement, stating their lifelong admiration for NBA and their excitement about taking over the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the world's most renowned sports teams. The Lakers, famous for icons like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O'Neal, were sold for a record $10 billion in 2025, a sum that seems even higher now.

Mark Walter proposed a year ago to buy the Lakers for $10 billion, but it appears more money is now flowing into the deal.
