Kellen Moore Makes Call on Tyler Shough, Saints Starters for Preseason Opener

The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars are set to kick off their preseason season on Saturday when they face off at Caesars Superdome. However, both teams will meet for a joint practice on Thursday at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie, Louisiana. According to Saints head coach Kellen Moore, the starters for both teams will get ample practice time during the Thursday session but are unlikely to see action in Saturday's preseason opener.

Moore stated, "Yeah, we'll get through this joint practice, and then we'll kind of see where our numbers are," indicating that most starters will be given thorough work during the practice before being rested for the game. Similarly, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen revealed that the team's top players, including star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, defensive lineman Travis Hunter, and others, will also not participate in Saturday's match.

Coen explained that the joint practice is intended to provide his starters with valuable, controlled repetitions while minimizing the risk of injury associated with live preseason games. While this news may not be what fans of either team were hoping to hear, it is important to remember that there is still much of the preseason left, and both Moore and Coen are expected to gradually integrate their starters into live game action as the start of the regular season approaches.

For the Saints, the upcoming two preseason games are against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, August 22, and the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, August 28. Both the Jaguars, Rams, and Cowboys are considered to be among the stronger teams in the league, providing a robust challenge for the Saints ahead of the regular season.
