July customs revenue beats target after collection hit Ksh 92B

Kenya's July customs revenue surpassed the government's target, collecting Ksh 92.5 billion in the first month of the fiscal year. This marked a historic high for monthly revenue, exceeding the Treasury's projected Ksh 86.16 billion by Ksh 6.37 billion, equivalent to a performance rate of 107.4%. The KRA reported a 15% growth compared to July 2023, when Ksh 80.3 billion was collected.

This impressive performance was largely driven by a significant surge in non-oil revenue collections, which reached a massive Ksh 61.5 billion, surpassing the Ksh 60 billion milestone for the first time in KRA's history. The authority credited sustained revenue mobilization, including enhanced compliance, technology-driven customs administration, improved cargo management, and the facilitation of legitimate trade, as key factors contributing to the successful revenue collection.
