Judge signs release warrant for Sedina Tamakloe Attionu after A-G withdraws stay application

A release warrant has been issued for former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu, after the Attorney-General abandoned its attempt to keep her in custody. The Attorney-General withdrew its motion on August 12, 2026, at the Court of Appeal to delay the execution of the court's decision acquitting and releasing Ms. Tamakloe Attionu.

The Court of Appeal had overturned Ms. Tamakloe Attionu's conviction and 10-year prison sentence on 78 corruption charges in July 2026. A three-judge panel, led by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah and concurring with Justices Samuel Obeng-Diawuo and Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, ruled that the trial judge had wrongly shifted the burden of proof onto Ms. Tamakloe Attionu, violating her constitutional right to presumption of innocence.

The prosecution had also failed to prove several charges beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice appealed to the Supreme Court, urging them to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision. The Attorney-General then requested a temporary halt to her execution, seeking a stay of execution until the Supreme Court determined the case.

However, Principal State Attorney Hilda Craig withdrew this application on Wednesday, allowing the Court of Appeal to strike it out.
