International Youth Day 2026: Qatar empowers youth to shape nation’s future

On International Youth Day 2026, Qatar is making strides to empower its youth and integrate them into shaping the nation's future, as outlined in the country's vision QNV 2030. The annual observance, taking place on August 12 with the theme "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," sheds light on the challenges faced by young people globally and their ambitions to contribute to sustainable development.

Fawaz Abdullah Al Musaifri, Director of the Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, emphasized that Qatari youth are united in their desire for a better future, anchored in quality education, equal opportunities, decent employment, and meaningful engagement in decision-making processes.

The Ministry has devised a comprehensive array of programmes and initiatives to centralize youth development, equipping them with the skills and tools needed to realize their potential. These efforts focus on enhancing leadership and professional competencies, encouraging volunteerism and active citizenship, and fostering platforms for dialogue and participation. Additionally, the Ministry champions youth-driven initiatives, innovation, and entrepreneurship, all aligned with the Human Development pillar of QNV 2030.

Al Musaifri highlighted the significance of partnerships with public and private sector entities, which are broadening the horizons of opportunities available to youth, underscoring that youth empowerment is a collective national endeavor. Among the key programmes, the "Qatar Youth Delegates to the United Nations" initiative, which has trained 53 young individuals in leadership, diplomacy, and international affairs, prepares them to represent Qatar in international forums.

Other notable schemes include the "Get Ready" programme, which prepares high school graduates for university life, benefiting 95 young people; and the "Intilaqah" programme, which equips participants with labor market skills, graduating 53 individuals. The "Jeel Mubader" initiative supports projects advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and QNV 2030, having graduated 31 youth.

Al Musaifri further stressed the Ministry's commitment to supporting youth initiatives through its Youth Initiatives Incubator and youth centres, aiding young innovators in transforming ideas into community projects with tangible impacts. As the world undergoes rapid technological and economic transformation, altering job landscapes, the Ministry is placing a strong emphasis on preparing the youth for the demands of the future.
