Indonesia is considering implementing a more targeted subsidy system for fuel, while evaluating its potential impact on the economy, according to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The issue was discussed in the House of Representatives (DPR) last year, and the government has been tasked with ensuring that the subsidy remains more targeted. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia previously stated that prices would not rise, as reported by local media on YouTube.

The minister clarified that the government has been researching technologies for the initiative, while state-owned petroleum and natural gas company Pertamina is also conducting studies on the matter in Surabaya. The minister mentioned that these steps would be implemented gradually to assess their impact on the economy, using an example of limiting purchases of subsidized RON 90 gasoline by the top 10% of consumers.

The minister stated that they would continue to implement the measure gradually, noting that if the top 10% of households were prevented from buying RON 90 gasoline, the economic impact would be examined. Desil 10 refers to the top 10% of households ranked by household expenditure under Indonesia's socio-economic classification system.
