'I was there': Dad reveals what happened during Lake Travis football scare

On Friday, September 19, 2025, at San Marcos Rattler Stadium in San Marcos, Texas, Lake Travis Cavalier football players gathered for team practice. However, the day took a tragic turn when Odin Hensley, a senior on the Lake Travis varsity football team, suffered cardiac arrest during practice. Hensley was immediately airlifted to Dell Children's Medical Center via Travis County STAR Flight and placed in the intensive care unit.

Greg Gold, a Lake Travis parent, recounted his firsthand experience witnessing the emergency, expressing deep gratitude for the prompt response from Lake Travis coaches, staff, and medical professionals. Gold's Facebook post highlighted the exceptional professionalism displayed by the coaching staff, athletic training/medical personnel, and EMS professionals. He praised the coaches for maintaining composure and swiftly ensuring the safety of other players while Hensley received urgent care from the medical team.

The outpouring of support extended beyond the immediate response, with a GoFundMe campaign launched for Hensley's family, quickly surpassing $110,000 in contributions as of Wednesday afternoon. As Hensley remains hospitalized with concerns about his brain and organ health, a vigil was scheduled for Wednesday night at the Lake Hills Church in Austin.
