‘I Know That He Is a Reviled Person’ — The Social Reckoning Star Jeremy Strong Says He Emailed Mark Zuckerberg to Promise to Approach the Role ‘With Respect’

Jeremy Strong, who plays the role of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, recently revealed that he emailed Zuckerberg himself to express his commitment to the role. The actor explained that he wrote to the Facebook CEO to assure him that he would approach the character with respect. Strong did not disclose the exact contents of his email or if he received a reply.

The decision to recast Zuckerberg came after Jesse Eisenberg, who played the character in the original 2010 film, declined to return. Strong explained that he did not share Eisenberg's concerns about being associated with Zuckerberg, stating that he sees the role as a great challenge. Despite Zuckerberg's reviled status in society, Strong believes an actor should not shy away from portraying him, as he has done in the past for characters like Trump and Bruce Springsteen.

For The Social Reckoning, Strong immersed himself in the role by creating a Facebook account to read Zuckerberg's old posts and watching hours of testimony videos. The sequel focuses on Zuckerberg's appearances before the US government following scandals in 2021, played by Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White. Strong is also set to play a Nazi hunter in an upcoming adaptation of The Boys from Brazil, demonstrating his dedication to each role.
