I have no regrets, Islamic cleric defends Muslim-Muslim ticket stance

Sheikh Muhammad Jingir, Chairman of the Ulama Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, defended his advocacy for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, stating he has no regrets over his views. Jingir claimed he had held this position long before President Bola Tinubu's administration. At a BBC interview, Jingir emphasized that his stance was not limited to Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and that he expected criticism over his comments.

He argued that any politician sharing his view on the "difficulties faced by Muslims" in Nigeria would support his position. Jingir believed in promoting Islam over specific politicians and expressed his right to advise Muslims on their voting rights. He defended his position based on the religious principle that "a Muslim is a brother to a Muslim."

Despite attracting criticism, Jingir was unconcerned about the reaction, stating he had no regrets and would continue to speak about his stance.
