Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast across southwestern Saudi Arabia through Saturday

With heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected to impact parts of Saudi Arabia's southwestern coast through Saturday, the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning. According to the Saudi Numerical Model and an animated map released by the NCM, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated across most of Jazan's coast on Wednesday afternoon. Lighter showers may be experienced in southern Asir and areas near the Asir-Al-Baha border during this time.

The heavy rainfall is predicted to continue until early evening before diminishing and becoming more sporadic in the affected regions, ultimately clearing by late evening. On Thursday morning, light rainfall is expected over southern Asir, before dispersing and moving towards Jazan's Farasan Islands. Light to moderate showers may return to southern Jazan later in the morning, with light showers forecasted across most of Jazan and a small area in northern Asir by the afternoon.

As the afternoon progresses, light showers may be observed around Taif in the Makkah region and small areas in northern Asir, while rainfall persists over most of Jazan. Intensifying from light showers to moderate and heavy rain is forecasted across Jazan between the afternoon and evening, extending into much of western Asir. By early evening, the border between Asir and Jazan may receive intensified rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, before gradually weakening and clearing later in the evening.

Light showers are expected to return to southern Asir and eastern Jazan until Friday morning, after which rainfall is anticipated to subside until the afternoon. Moderate rainfall may be forecasted across most of Jazan on Friday afternoon, with lighter showers east of Taif and small sections of northwestern Asir. Later on Friday afternoon, rainfall in western Asir is expected to intensify, while showers across Jazan are forecasted to weaken.
