Hajj and Umrah Ministry advises on best times to visit Grand Mosque

The Ministry of Tourism in Saudi Arabia has announced updates to the licensing and classification standards for Hajj accommodations in Makkah and Madinah for the 1448 Hajj season. These revisions encompass new licensing and classification regulations, as well as an updated schedule for addressing violations at facilities meant to house pilgrims.

The changes aim to bolster the preparedness of hospitality establishments, elevate service quality for pilgrims, and refine the regulation of these accommodations prior to the pilgrim influx.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Tourism, Nasr Al-Ansari, these updates are aimed at refining the regulatory and operational structure for Hajj season lodgings, ensuring facilities are fully equipped before their launch and the arrival of pilgrims. The prerequisites now include confirming operational preparedness, adhering to safety and maintenance standards, guaranteeing uninterrupted provision of essential services, and complying with approved operational benchmarks designed to guarantee a secure and organized atmosphere for pilgrims.

The revised regulations also introduce a categorization system for Hajj season lodgings, splitting them into economy and first-class categories. Each category has its own set of prerequisites and evaluation criteria covering shared facilities, guest rooms, reception services, cleanliness, upkeep, and services provided to guests.

The regulatory structure encompasses multiple inspection phases, initiating before the license is granted, ongoing during the pre-operational phase, and continuing throughout the operational period. These measures are intended to ensure adherence to standards and uphold quality and safety throughout the period when pilgrims are housed, not just at the time of licensing.

The Ministry of Tourism has urged prospective license applicants for Hajj season accommodations in the 1448 Hajj to commence meeting regulatory requirements early, complete essential maintenance and preparations, and submit their licensing applications. This move is part of the pre-season preparations and aims to bolster the readiness of accommodation and hospitality facilities in Makkah and Madinah, thereby promoting the delivery of superior and more organized services to pilgrims.
