Government targets GH¢10m to fund agricultural education by end of 2026

The Ghanaian government aims to allocate GH¢10 million by the end of 2026 to establish the Ghana Agricultural Fund for Education and Transformation, as part of efforts to provide sustainable funding for agricultural education and skills development. This initiative seeks to mobilize resources for agricultural education, training, and capacity building, ultimately strengthening the country's agricultural workforce and boosting sector productivity.

So far, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has raised GH¢3.5 million, accounting for 35 percent of the 2026 target. To meet the end-of-year goal, an additional GH¢6.5 million is required. Speaking at the Fund's launch, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, expressed confidence in the initial mobilized funds, stating that they have created a "credible and solid foundation" for the initiative.

The government plans to significantly expand the Fund in the next two years, with an ambitious long-term target of GH¢100 million by 2028. Opoku urged for increased collaboration between government, private sector, and other stakeholders, emphasizing that agricultural education should be treated as a shared national responsibility.

He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in managing the Fund, emphasizing that contributors must have confidence that their resources will be professionally managed and directed towards clearly defined needs.
