Gov Nwifuru warns Ebonyi youths against political violence

Ebonyi State's Governor, Francis Nwifuru, cautioned young people against engaging in political violence, emphasizing that no political ambition is worth the loss of life or youth. The governor made this statement on Wednesday at the conclusion of the 2026 International Youth Week Celebration organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ebonyi State Chapter.

Nwifuru, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidi Onyia, highlighted youths as the state's most valuable resource, urging them to prepare for leadership and economic prospects through education, skill development, discipline, innovation, entrepreneurship, and diligent work. He cautioned youths against succumbing to political manipulation via social media, propaganda, and inflammatory activities, recommending the use of digital platforms for constructive interaction, learning, and community advancement instead.

Nwifuru also advised young people to transcend reliance on political favor by gaining skills that would make them valuable in the economy, governance, and public service. The governor underscored the importance of thorough preparation to capitalize on emerging opportunities, urging youths to remain steadfast, resilient, and committed to self-improvement.

NYCN Ebonyi State Chairman, Douglas Ochishi, at the event's initiation, encouraged youths to eschew drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, and political intimidation, and to adopt education, innovation, entrepreneurship, peace, and responsible citizenship. Other presenters, including the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Mbam, and various government officials, advocated for continued investment in youth development, skill acquisition, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership preparations.
