Google's $29 Pixel Tag helps you keep track of your valuables

Google has rolled out a new personal tracker named Pixel Tag, aiming to compete with Apple's AirTag in the market. This device utilizes Google's extensive Find Hub network to locate lost devices, much like Apple's AirTag, which taps into a vast network of iPhones for comprehensive coverage. The Pixel Tag is compatible with Android devices running version 9 or later.

To pair it with your device, simply remove the battery tab, place it close to your gadget, and follow the on-screen prompts. During setup, you can personalize the tracker with a unique name or opt for one from a list of suggested uses. Constructed from stainless steel and boasting an IP67 rating for resistance against liquid and dust, the Pixel Tag also includes a built-in speaker to help locate it.

In a remarkable feature, the tag can even be used to find your misplaced phone by ringing it back. Powered by a long-lasting battery, lasting up to a year, the Pixel Tag is designed for easy battery replacement. Utilizing standard CR2032 coin cell batteries, which are widely available, the tracker leverages Bluetooth for local searches and taps into the Find Hub network for extended searches.

The network comprises over a billion Android devices worldwide, ensuring a broad search area. Once located, the tag can be pinged via your phone, Pixel Watch, or through the Find Hub app in a web browser. Remarkably, users can share a single tag with up to ten individuals, making it practical for locating shared items. Google's announcement highlights an additional safety feature, alerting users when traveling with an unfamiliar tag, likely to assist in locating lost devices or potentially deter unwanted tracking.

The Pixel Tag is set to hit stores on November 11, in time for the holiday season, priced at $29 each, or $99 for a four-pack to offer some savings.
