Google TV Freeplay Now Lets You Choose Free Movies and Shows

Google TV Freeplay, Google's free streaming service for Google TV devices in the United States, is undergoing a significant enhancement. Users can now choose from over 10,000 movies and TV shows to watch on demand, rather than being restricted to live channels. This new library is a result of partnerships with content providers such as A24 and Lionsgate.

Google has implemented dedicated "Live TV" and "Free movies & shows" tabs, offering a seamless transition between live channels and on-demand content. The new feature is currently being rolled out, initially focusing on Google TV devices in the US. This rollout builds upon Freeplay's existing lineup of over 250 free live channels, which has since expanded to more than 300 channels, according to Google.

By incorporating on-demand content, Freeplay is broadening its scope beyond its initial focus on free, ad-supported live television, granting users greater control over their viewing preferences.
