Global youth unemployment rate to reach 12.4% in 2025, ILO says

The International Labour Organization (ILO) predicts global youth unemployment will climb to 12.4% in 2025, according to their latest forecast. This marks an increase from 12.3% in 2024, affecting approximately 67 million young people worldwide. The ILO's annual report also reveals that the proportion of young individuals neither employed, studying, nor in training has risen to 20%, totaling over 257 million globally.

Despite this, the organization anticipates the youth unemployment rate to stabilize at 12.3% in 2026 and 2027, underscoring the persistent challenges in the labor market. The report suggests that rapid technological advancements, especially artificial intelligence, are reshaping job opportunities, with 6.1% of young people's jobs being particularly vulnerable to AI impacts.
