Gardaí 'relentless' in targeting organised crime - Kelly

Commissioner Justin Kelly has emphasized that the work of An Garda Síochána in pursuing the Kinahan cartel is far from over. Speaking at the launch of a permanent High Visibility Policing Plan for Galway city, Kelly stated that the force remains relentless in its efforts. The plan involves daily deployments of gardaí from Galway Garda Station and Salthill/Bóthar na Trá Garda Station in seven specific patrol areas.

Kelly highlighted the significant impact the Gardaí have had on the Kinahan organized crime gang, with over 50 members currently incarcerated. He commended the dedicated work of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, which has been committed to these cases for a decade. The Commissioner praised their relentless efforts, noting they have traveled worldwide to achieve this outcome.

Kelly expressed his pride in An Garda Síochána's standing in the international policing community, particularly in the successful extradition operation of Daniel Kinahan last weekend. He acknowledged the crucial role played by the Defence Forces in transporting Kinahan back to Ireland, with the Garda extradition team on board and their support at Casement Aerodrome when Kinahan was arrested.

Kelly also recognized the unsung heroes behind these operations, particularly the Detective Garda and Detective Sergeant ranks who have dedicated the past ten years to this cause. As Garda Commissioner, he is proud of these teams, stating that the fight against organized crime is certainly not finished.
