Five Penang blackspots in police cross-agency push to clean up crime hotspots

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 12 — The Penang Police have pinpointed five problematic areas in the state to be the main targets of the 2026 initiative aimed at whitening blackspots through safety crime prevention. State police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng unveiled the plan, which adopts an integrated approach to addressing security, crime, social, infrastructure, and environmental concerns in the designated regions.

The initiative involves a whole-of-government and whole-of-society collaboration, uniting the police, government agencies, local authorities, elected officials, communities, non-governmental organizations, private enterprises, and strategic partners in a coordinated effort to build a safer, cleaner, orderly, and welcoming environment.

During an engagement session at Dewan Yayasan Aman in Kubang Semang, Lim expressed his hopes that the approach would result in more systematic, efficient, and enduring strategic measures to achieve the 'United For Safety' aspirations. The session allowed departments, agencies, and strategic partners to share their insights and proposals, with a focus on coordinating action plans, implementing intervention projects, determining resource requirements, and fostering collaborative efforts.

Among those attending the session were Bagan Dalam assemblyman K. Kumaran, representatives of state assemblymen, heads of various government departments and agencies, local authority representatives, senior police officers, strategic partners, and chairmen of Rukun Tetangga Areas.
