Finance Ministry: Prices of non subsidised RON97, RON95, diesel cheaper by 20, 15 and 10 sen respectively from Aug 13 to 19

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The Malaysian Finance Ministry has announced a price reduction for non-subsidised petroleum products from August 13 to August 19, 2026. According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), RON97 prices have dropped by 20 sen per liter, while unsubsidised RON95 and diesel have decreased by 15 sen and 10 sen per liter, respectively.

The Ministry explained that the retail price of RON97 is now RM4.15 per litre, down from RM4.35, while RON95 is priced at RM3.62 per litre, down from RM3.77. Diesel prices have also decreased to RM4.47 per litre, compared to RM4.57. Subsidised petroleum prices, however, remain unchanged at RM1.99 per litre for RON95, also known as Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95), and RM2.10 per litre for diesel, known as Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel).

The subsidy for Budi95 amounts to RM1.63 per litre, or 82 percent of the pump price, while Budi Diesel enjoys a subsidy of RM2.37 per litre, equivalent to 113 percent of the pump price. The Ministry noted that the price drop is due to the decline in global oil prices last week, as global oil prices fell to record lows amid hopes for a resolution to the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Despite this, geopolitical risk premiums have been rising, and the prices are expected to continue fluctuating in the near future due to ongoing uncertainties related to the Strait of Hormuz.
