Exclusive: Astrotalk Joins Unicorn Club After ESOP Buyback At $1 Bn Valuation

Astrotalk, an astrology platform based in Delhi NCR, has achieved unicorn status after conducting an ESOP buyback at a valuation of $1 billion, according to sources cited by Inc42. The buyback saw participation from over 100 employees. Astrotalk has confirmed the ESOP exercise and valuation to Inc42, though it has not disclosed the buyback size or number of shares repurchased.

The company now holds the distinction of being India's 133rd unicorn. Astrotalk has reported annual revenue run rate (ARR) exceeding ₹2,500 crore, driven by its astrology-consultation platform and expansion into spiritual ecommerce. Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, Astrotalk generates revenue through fees charged to customers for consultations by astrologers on its platform.

The company has raised $34 million in funding from investors such as Elev8 Venture Partners, Left Lane Capital, and QED Investors. With over 4 crore users served, Astrotalk's operating revenue nearly doubled to ₹1,176 crore in the fiscal year ending March 2025 from ₹651 crore in the previous fiscal. The company's net profit more than tripled to ₹250 crore from ₹100 crore in FY24.

Astrotalk entered the spiritual ecommerce segment in November 2024 with the launch of Astrotalk Store, which sold a range of spiritual products. The ecommerce business scaled in its first year, generating over ₹140 crore in operating revenue. Astrotalk plans to further expand its ecommerce offerings, including opening an experiential outlet in the Delhi NCR region and launching an international ecommerce website in the US to cater to the non-resident Indian market.
