Ex-Chiefs OC Matt Nagy Catches Strays from TE Travis Kelce

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is gaining attention as tight end Travis Kelce, who praised new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, subtly criticized his former boss. During a press conference discussing the difference in this year's training camp compared to previous seasons under Nagy, Kelce spoke highly of Bieniemy's intensity, which he believes is lacking in the Chiefs' locker room.

"Intensity is the first thing," Kelce said. "And that intensity is infectious. It makes you want to scream mother [expletive] at everybody doing the wrong thing." Kelce acknowledged that Bieniemy's accountability might be irritating at times, but when handled correctly, it can make both the player and the team better. While fan discussions highlight the difference in the team's offense under Nagy versus Bieniemy, it's clear that the change in coordinators has had a significant impact.

Under Bieniemy, the Chiefs ranked in the top five in offensive production for five consecutive seasons, averaging 406 yards and 30.1 points per game. Conversely, under Nagy, the Chiefs ranked lower, averaging 332.6 yards and 21.9 points per game over three seasons. The offensive change also coincided with a notable decline in quarterback Patrick Mahomes' performance, with his passer rating dropping from 106.2 to 91.9 during the two different coaching stints.
