Evacuation Ordered as Nullah Lai Reaches Dangerous Level

Heavy rain triggered a flood alert in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday as the water level in Nullah Lai reached dangerous heights, forcing the evacuation of residents from low-lying regions. Authorities initiated the relocation of individuals from Gwalmandi and Katarian after a rapid surge in the stream following overnight rains that began at 1 am and persisted into the morning.

Sirens blared across both cities as officials cautioned of a potential flood emergency. According to reports, the Rawalpindi district administration sought assistance from the Pakistan Army to manage the evolving situation. Officials disclosed that the water level at Katarian surged to 22 feet, whereas at Gwalmandi, it reached 17.5 feet.

They further noted that the water level surged rapidly within a mere half an hour, with the level in Katarian climbing from 21.5 feet to 22 feet and in Gwalmandi from 15 feet to 17.5 feet.
