European Athletics Championships 2026 medal table: Standings as Glave and Hunt win gold for GB

Great Britain claimed the top spot in the medal table at the European Athletics Championships 2026 after the first two days of competition, thanks to the impressive performances of sprinters Romell Glave and Jeremiah Azu. Glave won gold in the men’s 100m, while Azu claimed silver. Amy Hunt, a world 200m silver medalist, secured GB's first gold of the championships by winning the 100m event.

Hunt overcame a sluggish start to overtake Poland's Ewa Swoboda and Belgium's Delphine Nkansa in a thrilling finish. Dina Asher-Smith, Britain's defending champion, finished fifth. Italy and the Netherlands followed close behind with four medals each, while Norway secured two golds on the opening night, with Jakob Ingebrigtsen claiming a record-equalling seventh European gold in the 5,000m.

Ingebrigtsen had been sidelined with an Achilles injury for nearly a year, but returned to form to secure his victory. The Norwegian 4x400m mixed relay team also added a second gold later that evening, while Britain's team secured silver, led by Yemi Mary John.
