Europe braces for next heat wave

Europe braces for another scorching heat wave as temperatures are set to soar to extreme levels across the continent. An estimated 92 million people in France, Italy and Spain will experience temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). Over 300 million individuals – more than half of Europe's population – will witness temperatures surpassing 30 degrees Celsius.

This new heat wave follows the warmest June-July period ever recorded in Western Europe, as reported by the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service. Temperatures in Europe are warming at twice the rate of other continents. The German Weather Service predicts high temperatures of up to 39 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country, while the Rhine river's water levels have dropped to record lows, affecting transportation and causing environmental concerns.

France, Spain and Italy are also bracing for similar extreme heat, with authorities urging visitors to the Iberian country for the total solar eclipse to avoid starting wildfires due to drought conditions. The heat wave is expected to spread to southeastern Europe, including Greece, Albania and Croatia, and the UK is also experiencing its hottest summer on record, with temperatures expected to surpass 30 degrees Celsius.
