EPL: Rio Ferdinand names rival player that helped Arsenal win title last season

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand revealed that Arsenal's Premier League title win last season would not have been possible without a crucial injury to Manchester City's Rodri. The Gunners triumphed, securing 85 points – eight ahead of City – in a 22-year wait for the coveted trophy. Ferdinand, speaking on his podcast, stated that Manchester City would have overtaken Arsenal for the league title had Rodri not been sidelined for 27 matches, starting only 17 games total.

Injuries posed significant challenges for Pep Guardiola's side. Ferdinand also hinted at potential difficulties for Manchester City following Rodri's possible departure to Barcelona. "Can we just talk about Manchester City please? Not only have they lost Pep Guardiola, but it now appears they are also losing Rodri," Ferdinand remarked.

"If Rodri had started and played every match last season without injury, Manchester City would have won the Premier League. No disrespect to Arsenal, but if Rodri had played ten more games, Manchester City would have claimed the league." With Guardiola's departure, Manchester City faces an uncertain future, appointing Enzo Maresca as his successor.

Losing Rodri further complicates their situation. Meanwhile, Arsenal appears well-positioned, having signed Bruno Guimaraes and likely to make more summer signings.
