A former EBS president has been acquitted of allegations that he misused a corporate card. U Si-chun, the former EBS president, was accused of misusing a corporate card for personal purposes during his tenure as president of EBS. On the 30th, the Seoul Central District Court found U not guilty of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, such as breach of trust. The prosecution had indicted U in October 2021 on charges that he used a corporate card issued by EBS for around 70 million won ($52,500) for personal purposes, such as eating and traveling, from July 2018 to June 2020. At the time, U denied all allegations, claiming that he had used the card for EBS-related business purposes. During the trial, U stated that most of the expenses were related to EBS business trips and content development, and that some expenses were for meals with staff. The court accepted U's claims, finding that it was difficult to conclude that he had used the corporate card for personal purposes. The court also stated that there was no evidence to support the prosecution's claims. As a result, the court ruled that U was not guilty. U served as EBS president from May 2018 to May 2021.
