Driver Pulls Up Directly to Firehouse When His Tesla Inexplicably Bursts Into Flames

A Tesla driver in Tremont, Maine encountered an issue while driving on the road which caused his electric vehicle to catch fire. The unnamed owner was traveling in a red Model S when he hit an object on the road, puncturing the car's lithium-ion battery. Electric vehicles, particularly Teslas, are prone to catching fire if there is any damage to their battery, as it can lead to thermal runaway and a dangerous blaze that is difficult to extinguish.

The driver remained calm and drove directly to the Tremont fire station, where the Tremont Volunteer Fire Department responded. Despite the battery exploding, the driver was reported to be unharmed. The Tesla was deemed a total loss, but the nearby Southwest Harbor Fire Department assisted in putting out the fire by shutting down the road and using fire hoses.

This incident comes just days after another Tesla exploded in Seattle, forcing two firefighters to be hospitalized. Due to the risk of fire, it is advised that Tesla owners familiarize themselves with the location of their nearest fire department.
