DeepSeek publicises efforts to challenge Anthropic’s Claude code

Beijing – DeepSeek has established a dedicated social media presence and advertised job openings for a team dedicated to creating artificial intelligence agents akin to Anthropic’s well-known Claude Code. The company launched an official account for its "DeepSeek Harness Team" on WeChat, a major Chinese app owned by Tencent. The account, linked to a Beijing-based company identified as DeepSeek-controlled through China's corporate database Qichacha, has been verified by Tencent.

"Harness" pertains to the software framework that envelops large language models, empowering AI agents to tackle more intricate tasks. Anthropic and other developers have engineered harnesses to enhance their software's proficiency in automating coding and other operations. DeepSeek is also actively recruiting for several positions within its harness team.

One job posting stated the company's aim to transform its models into forward-thinking agentic products. Concurrently, the AI startup upgraded its main V4 Pro model with enhanced agentic capabilities on August 11, as per an official company announcement on WeChat. The Chinese market is intensely competitive with US developers striving to create superior and more affordable artificial intelligence solutions.

Although OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot initiated the global AI frenzy, numerous firms have shifted focus towards the burgeoning AI agents market, capable of automating tasks for business professionals. DeepSeek did not reply to a request for comment after normal business hours. Several Chinese news outlets, including Jiemian, reported on August 11 that the company had established the new WeChat account.
