Dashcam captures Atiq Ahmed’s son Abaan’s fatal crash in Jhansi

A dashcam video capturing the fatal crash involving Abaan Ahmed and his friend Sonu surfaced online, sparking widespread attention. The footage, recorded on August 6, depicts a Hyundai Creta speeding and overtaking a pickup truck before losing control and colliding with a road divider. The impact was so intense that the SUV was propelled several feet into the air. The video was captured by the dashboard camera of a vehicle following the Creta.

The accident occurred on August 6 near Poonch police station, approximately 70 km before reaching Jhansi. Abaan and his companions were traveling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his brother, Ali Ahmed, who was incarcerated in Jhansi jail. The location of the accident was confirmed by a local reporter who visited the scene, noting the alignment of the video with the actual incident.

Initially, it was believed that the driver lost control while trying to evade an animal on the highway. However, the dashcam footage suggests the Creta overtook a pickup truck right before veering towards the divider. The Creta was traveling at around 120 kmph at the time of the crash, causing severe damage to the front of the vehicle and leaving all five occupants injured.

Abaan and Sonu tragically died in the collision, while three others - Umar Ahmed, Mohammad Zaid, and Aslam - sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility. Witness Deepak Yadav, one of the first responders, recounted hearing the collision and using an iron rod to break the window to rescue the trapped occupants. Abaan regained consciousness briefly after being pulled from the wreckage and identified himself before losing consciousness due to severe internal injuries.

The post-mortem examination revealed extensive internal trauma, with ruptures to Abaan's liver, lungs, and spleen, along with multiple fractured ribs. His death was attributed to massive internal bleeding caused by the high-impact collision. Sonu, seated behind Abaan, suffered a fatal head injury and skull fracture. The dashcam footage has provided crucial visual evidence for investigators, who are now examining it alongside eyewitness accounts, forensic findings, and other evidence to determine the exact circumstances and cause of the accident.
