Convicted helper abuser jailed again for lying to MOM to illegally hire another domestic worker

Maselly Ab Aziz, a convicted abuser of domestic workers, has been sentenced again to jail time for falsely hiring another helper through a friend's name, according to prosecutors. The 55-year-old had previously been jailed for abusing a helper by pulling out her teeth with pliers in 2007. Now, Maselly and her friend Nur Afidah Abdul Gafar, 39, conspired to deceive the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in 2024 to hire a helper under Afidah's name, while claiming the helper would work for Maselly in Ang Mo Kio.

The helper worked for Maselly for nearly five months, unaware that she was not her official employer. Maselly's husband revealed the truth in March 2024, but the helper continued working at the house despite her work permit being revoked. Both women could face up to two years in jail and a fine of $20,000 for their roles in the illegal hiring.
