CJP’s Saurav Das flags Puducherry police’s visit to family home; cops call it Independence Day drill

On Wednesday, police officers from Puducherry visited the family home of Saurav Das, a member of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The visit sparked accusations of political intimidation, with Das alleging that the questioning was aimed at silencing him due to his political activities. The police, however, insisted that the visit was part of a routine security exercise ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Das, co-convenor of the CJP, claimed the police questioned his family members at their residence in White Town, a city area where the Independence Day parade will take place. He accused the BJP government of intimidating his family and vowed that the action would not deter him, stating that it would only strengthen the resolve to build a better system.

Police officials, including Nithya Radhakrishnan, IPS, the senior officer in-charge of crime and intelligence, rejected the allegations of targeted intimidation. They stated that the visit was a routine security check conducted across White Town, including inquiries about residents, guests, and foreign nationals staying at the premises.

The police clarified that only authorized establishments, such as those accommodating foreign nationals, were included in the verification process.
