Car bomb kills Haftar intel chief in eastern Libya

Fawzi al-Mansouri, the head of military intelligence for the Libyan National Army (LNA), was killed in a car bombing on Monday night in Benghazi, eastern Libya. The LNA reported that the explosive device was affixed to his car, detonating as he left a local mosque. Reports indicated the incident occurred in Benghazi, a city controlled by the Haftar-led LNA government.

Khaled Haftar, al-Mansouri's son and a senior LNA commander, stated that an investigation into the attack was underway. The bombing has dealt a significant blow to the LNA's security capabilities and undermined efforts to unify Libya under a Washington-mediated reunification plan. Analysts noted the sophisticated nature of the attack, suggesting the responsible party possessed substantial capabilities.

The LNA pledged to continue combating terrorism and securing Libya's stability and unity. The killing also comes amid the US-backed plan to reunify Libya, which both governments have publicly supported, though neither side is expected to be fully satisfied with the outcome.
