Cape Town family accused of selling their daughter for R100

A Cape Town family has been accused of selling their 11-year-old daughter for a mere R100. This shocking allegation came to light after a video surfaced, showing a resident in the Masincedane Informal Settlement in Strandfontein pleading for help regarding the young girl. According to the footage, the girl is being sold for sex by her parents.

The resident approached the father, who reportedly claimed the girl should work for the household as he had no money. This has sparked outrage in the community, with a resident stating that people in the settlement believed the father when he said it was okay for her to sell herself. The video was reported to the Strandfontein Community Policing Forum, leading to an investigation and the arrest of two suspects, aged 20 and 47.

The mother of the girl was also arrested but was later released. Both suspects appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court and were remanded in custody for a bail application. The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Jaco Londt, confirmed that the Department of Social Development was aware of the matter and is cooperating with the police's investigation. The Strandfontein CPF remains committed to protecting the children in their community.
