Canada deported over 3,000 Indians in 6 months: What CBSA data shows

In the first half of 2026, Canadian authorities removed 3,323 Indian nationals, placing the country on track to surpass its annual record for Indian deportations if the trend continues. This surge in deportations signals stricter immigration control measures and penalties for overstays or non-compliance, according to news agency PTI.

The six-month figure represents nearly 88% of the 3,779 Indian nationals removed in 2025, the highest annual count in CBSA data from 2020 to 2025. Should the current pace persist, 2026 could set a new record for Indian deportations.

Ottawa's immigration system appears to be tightening, with reports suggesting a reduction in temporary residents such as foreign workers and international students. However, the specific inadmissibility categories for 2026 Indian deportees are not broken down by nationality in the published data. Across all nationalities, non-compliance by refugee claimants and non-compliance among non-claimants are the leading grounds for enforced removals in the first six months of 2026.

Indian nationals now lead the list of foreign nationals deported from Canada in 2026, surpassing Mexicans, who constituted 1,573 deportations. In the previous five years, Mexico ranked first in deportations annually, with India consistently in the second position. Indians were at the top of the deportation list in 2020 with 1,424 individuals removed. In 2021, 603 Indians were deported, followed by 786 in 2022, 1,132 in 2023, and 2,004 in 2024.

Currently, there are 7,669 Indian nationals in the CBSA's "removal in progress inventory," representing cases where removal action is ongoing but not necessarily leading to immediate deportation. Canada's deportation figures for Indian nationals from January to June 2026 exceed those of the United States, which deported 1,273 Indian nationals during the same period, as per data from the Ministry of External Affairs.
