Black Queens demand payment of outstanding bonuses and improved welfare

Ghana's national women's football team, the Black Queens, have called for the payment of outstanding bonuses and improved support from the government during their participation in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team, who were eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing 2-1 to Malawi, expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of official support during their campaign.

The Black Queens stated that the Sports Minister and President were only present at their first official training session, which they deemed inadequate professional support. Despite their concerns, the players emphasized that the statement was not intended to create discord or disrespect, but rather to demand "transparency, accountability, fairness, and respect."

They praised their technical staff for their support throughout the campaign and urged authorities to address the players' financial obligations and provide the necessary resources to help the team compete at the highest level. Ghana is set to face Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, with the outcome potentially determining the team's qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
