Baseball team to open Asian Games camp 1 week before tournament

The national baseball team of Korea plans to commence training for the upcoming Asian Games one week prior to the tournament's start in Japan, according to an official statement made on Wednesday. The squad, composed of athletes from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), will initiate their training camp on September 14 and depart for Nagoya on September 17.

The KBO regular season will continue unabated throughout the Asian Games competition, and the players selected for the national team will remain committed to their respective clubs until September 13, when they will report for their duties at the Asian Games. The baseball tournament is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 27 at Okazaki Central Park Baseball Stadium in Okazaki, located approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Nagoya, and Toyohashi Municipal Baseball Stadium in Toyohashi, situated around 60 kilometers southeast of Nagoya.

Ryu Ji-hyun, the team's manager, leads the Korean team in their pursuit of their fifth consecutive gold medal. In the preliminary round, Korea has been grouped with Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Thailand in Group B. Their opening match will be against Chinese Taipei at 6:30 p.m. on September 21 in Okazaki. The Group A consists of Japan, China, the Philippines, and Palestine. After the round-robin phase, the teams will advance to the knockout stage.
