Armoured personnel carriers, other vehicles handed over to police in several KP districts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police distributed armoured personnel carriers, forklift trucks, single and double cabin vehicles, and motorcycles to district police officers on Tuesday to bolster their ability to combat terrorism and maintain order. Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed distributed the vehicles during a handover ceremony held at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.

IGP Hameed assessed the capabilities of the armored vehicles, double cabins, and forklifts, and received important updates from relevant officials. Senior police officials, including Additional IGPs and DIGs, were also present at the event.

The police department is implementing a public-friendly policing policy, which aims to better protect the lives of police personnel and tackle terrorist threats. IGP Hameed shared that Dragon APCs, bulletproof vehicles, single and double cabin vehicles, forklift trucks, and motorcycles have been handed over to various district police units to improve their operational capabilities.

In Tank, Hangu, and Upper Swat, the highly advanced Dragon APCs have been transferred to better facilitate troop movements in high-risk areas. Additionally, modern Revo vehicles have been given to the DPOs of Kohat and Torghar, while Hiace vans have been distributed to police departments in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Abbottabad.

To enhance the operational capacity of district police, single and double cabin vehicles have been provided. Four-wheel-drive single cabin vehicles have been allocated to Swat and Lower Dir districts, while four-wheel-drive two-wheel-drive single cabin vehicles have been given to Hangu and Tank. Moreover, 33 forklifts have been distributed among various districts and units, and 25 motorcycles have been provided to different DPOs.

IGP Hameed also mentioned that 84 APCs are being upgraded with modern technology to ensure their impregnability. The police mobiles have undergone side-armoring to ensure the safety of personnel during patrols. Furthermore, 33 forklift trucks have been allocated to different districts of the province to improve traffic management, curb illegal parking, and reduce congestion on highways.

IGP Hameed emphasized that the police are continually being equipped with modern weapons, quality training, and advanced vehicles and gadgets to ensure lasting peace, effective policing, and the provision of quality services to the public. The process of enhancing police capabilities will continue in the future as well.
