Al-Hasawi lime gains ground in Saudi and Gulf markets with diverse products

Al-Hasawi lime, originating from the Al-Ahsa oasis in Saudi Arabia, is enjoying increased demand across local and Gulf markets. This rising popularity can be attributed to the fruit's high quality, diverse product range, and the adoption of modern marketing strategies. Al-Hasawi lime, a seasonal crop, is now being marketed in major local markets, fruit shops, and across Gulf markets.

The growth in demand for Al-Hasawi lime is credited to several factors, including the use of modern packaging systems, the establishment of a unified brand, and the diversification into related industries. These include the production of natural juices, aromatic oils, and high-quality dried lime peels used in food and beverage preparation.

Al-Hasawi lime is a highly sought-after summer fruit in Al-Ahsa, thanks to the farmers' meticulous care in maintaining its quality. This attention has earned the fruit consumer trust and a significant presence among local agricultural products. The fruit is characterized by its thin peel, high juice content, strong aroma, and a perfect balance of acidity and flavor.

The annual Al-Hasawi Lime Festival plays a crucial role in promoting the fruit. Dr. Hossam El-Din Hussein Mahmoud, an associate professor at the College of Agricultural and Food Sciences at King Faisal University, pointed out that Al-Ahsa's climate is ideally suited for producing high-quality Al-Hasawi lime. This suitability bolsters the region's potential to become a leading citrus production center.

Research centers in Al-Ahsa have a vital role in developing improved lime varieties, refining irrigation and fertilization programs, offering technical advice, and enhancing agricultural guidance. This support aims to increase productivity and ensure sustainability in Al-Hasawi lime cultivation.

Farmer Ali Al-Ibrahim highlighted that Al-Hasawi lime retains its natural components and aromatic scent even several days after harvesting, and its green color remains stable during storage for months. He explained that marketing begins after dawn prayers at the central fruit and vegetable market, where limes are sold by the box or by the kilogram.

He also noted the variety of products derived from Al-Hasawi lime, including whole fruits, aged limes, jumayd (a type of dried lime), and dried and ground lime peels used in food and beverage preparation.
